Government to Launch Digital Education System With 32 Million Students Enrolled

The federal government has set July 1 for the official unveiling of the Digital National Education Management Information System, part of efforts to modernise education administration through data-driven governance.

Ahead of the launch, National Project Coordinator Adebayo Onigbanjo said more than 32 million students had already been enrolled on the platform, which forms the backbone of the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

Onigbanjo said education planning had long relied on fragmented systems and unreliable data, and that the platform would capture every learner, school, teacher and investment within a system supporting evidence-based decisions. He described education data as a strategic national asset.

On the out-of-school challenge, he said accurate data would let government identify learning gaps, track students’ progress and target investment, making every school visible, every student counted and every expenditure trackable, which would help curb wastage. The aim, he said, was full visibility of every learner’s journey from entry into formal education to completion. Addressing privacy concerns, he said the system was built on globally recognized architecture with safeguards that mask sensitive information, while National Education Data Infrastructure Coordinator Abubakar Isah said it complied with Nigeria’s data protection rules and that communities and partners could view non-sensitive school data to support development
