Nigerian activist and entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed that he engaged in criminal activities during his younger years while living in the United States.
The veteran entertainer made the disclosure during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television on Friday, where he reflected on his past and the life lessons that shaped his journey.
Speaking candidly, Charly Boy admitted to making several poor decisions in his youth, describing himself as someone who had been involved in theft and other risky activities.
“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve been a thief. I’ve done very risky things. I’ve done very stupid things, very foolish things. In fact, I have no business being here with you tonight, but I guess there’s a purpose for my life,” he said.
The outspoken social commentator further disclosed that he was involved in white-collar crime during his time in the United States.
“I was doing white-collar crime when I was in America. I was about 25 years old. I was doing a lot of stupid stuff. That’s why I say I’ve been there,” he added.
Charly Boy said he chose not to conceal that chapter of his life, explaining that he documented his experiences in his memoir to present an honest account of his journey from youthful rebellion and poor choices to personal transformation and self-discovery.
The entertainer noted that sharing his story is intended to inspire others by showing that people can learn from their mistakes and embrace positive change.
