The Lagos State Government has renewed its promise to finish and hand over 2,000 housing units to residents, including blocks rising in the Abraham Adesanya and Sangotedo areas of Ibeju Lekki, before the current administration leaves office.
Housing Commissioner Moruf Akinderu-Fatai gave the assurance while touring the sites, saying he was pleased with progress but wanted contractors to pick up the pace. He said the ministry was tracking the work closely to secure timely delivery and value for money.
He explained that the schemes were being built through public private partnerships to widen access to affordable housing, and that four major developments with a combined capacity of more than 2,000 units were under way across the state.
Akinderu-Fatai admitted he was not fully satisfied with progress on some sites, citing technical problems that would be resolved with contractors, and warned that the government would sanction or replace any firm that failed to deliver despite being funded. He said a number of the homes could be ready between October and November if performance improved.
The commissioner attributed earlier delays to inflation and soaring building material costs, which had pushed contractors to seek price reviews and extensions, but said those issues had been addressed and the focus was now squarely on completion.
