The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended renowned legal practitioner, Mike Ozekhome, from the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by Kabir Akanbi, who disclosed that the resolution was reached during the LPPC’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23.
According to the statement, the committee approved Ozekhome’s suspension in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and other matters relating to the rank.
The LPPC stated that the suspension would remain in effect pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as the determination of other related matters.
While the committee did not provide details of the allegations or proceedings leading to the suspension, it emphasized that the action was taken in accordance with its regulatory powers governing the conduct and privileges associated with the SAN rank.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria title is the highest professional distinction awarded to legal practitioners in the country, and recipients are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professional conduct.
Further developments are expected as the disciplinary process progresses and the committee reaches a final determination on the matter.
