Trump Says Iran Assures U.S. of No Charges for Ships Passing Through Strait of Hormuz

United States President Donald Trump has said Iran has assured Washington that no tolls, insurance fees, or other charges will be imposed on vessels transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, as diplomatic efforts continue to secure a lasting end to the conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, Trump said the U.S. had received assurances from Tehran that ships navigating the waterway would not be subjected to any form of payment.

According to the U.S. president, Iran informed Washington that there would be “no tolls, no insurance costs, and no other charges of any kind” imposed on vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, however, did not clarify whether the reported assurances would remain in force beyond the current 60-day negotiation period aimed at reaching a broader agreement on regional security issues.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, serving as a major corridor for global oil and gas shipments.

Iran has previously maintained that it intends to impose what it describes as maritime service fees for vessels using the waterway, a proposal that has been strongly opposed by the United States and several international shipping stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Iranian and Omani authorities announced on Tuesday that they would jointly examine the costs associated with services provided in the administration and management of the strait. Both countries reiterated their sovereign interests in the strategic waterway.

The latest development comes amid ongoing negotiations involving regional and international actors seeking to ease tensions and prevent further disruptions to global energy markets and maritime trade.
