The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has rescued more than 47 persons, mostly women and children, who were held captive by ISWAP terrorists in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue operation, which took place on 20 June 2026, was achieved through sustained military pressure and ongoing offensive operations targeting ISWAP strongholds in the Lake Chad region.
According to the Theatre Command, intensified ground and air operations forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in disarray, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape after prolonged periods in captivity.
The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention at a secured facility, while humanitarian agencies are providing support services to assist their recovery and eventual reintegration into society.
Military authorities said the operation underscores the continued commitment of troops to degrading terrorist capabilities while also securing the release of civilians held against their will.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its resolve to maintain sustained offensive operations aimed at dismantling remaining ISWAP networks and restoring lasting peace and stability across the North-East region.
