Former presidential aide and Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has responded after music star Davido referred to him as “Bingo” in a social media post.
The online exchange followed Omokri’s comments regarding the singer’s appearance at a recent international event. Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, reacted to Omokri’s remarks in a post that quickly gained attention on social media.
In the post, the award-winning singer wrote, “Umu Bingo @renoomokri fowl,” prompting a response from the former presidential aide.
Reacting on Tuesday, Omokri shared screenshots of Davido’s post on Instagram, describing the singer’s remarks as “feedback” but expressing surprise at the nature of the response.
“Dear Mr. David Adeleke, aka Davido, thank you for your feedback. I was rather surprised by your response to my post. Most shocking is your insult,” Omokri wrote.
He added that he believes Davido’s reaction stemmed from his criticism of the singer’s decision to wear a customized jacket bearing the names of abducted schoolchildren from Oyo State during a performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup event.
According to Omokri, while Davido’s intentions may have been well-meaning, raising awareness of the issue on a global stage could inadvertently amplify the visibility of criminal groups responsible for such acts.
“You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you,” Omokri stated.
The former presidential aide further argued that international platforms should be used to project a positive image of Nigeria rather than draw attention to insecurity challenges.
Drawing a comparison, Omokri referenced American content creator IShowSpeed, noting that the social media personality used the same global platform to promote Nigeria positively by wearing the country’s jersey and speaking favorably about the nation.
The exchange has since generated mixed reactions online, with supporters of both personalities debating the role of celebrities in highlighting national issues on international stages.
Neither Davido nor his representatives have issued any further statement regarding the controversy.
