Twenty-Three Accord State Chairmen Rally Behind Olawepo-Hashim as Presidential Candidate

Twenty-three state chairmen of the Accord Party have formally endorsed Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as the party’s presidential candidate for 2027, describing his emergence through the presidential primary process as the legitimate outcome of internal party democracy and calling on all stakeholders to accept the result, close ranks, and direct their energy toward building the party’s electoral competitiveness.

In a joint statement following consultations, the chairmen said their position reflected extensive internal deliberations and the collective acceptance of a democratic process, noting that several additional state chairmen who were unable to attend the Abuja meeting had conveyed their endorsement separately. The initiative was led by the Lagos and Kaduna state chapter chairmen and was said to carry the support of a majority of the National Working Committee.

The chairmen acknowledged that the party was navigating internal disputes over differing interpretations of the primary process and its outcome, and said their statement was partly intended to establish clarity about where the weight of state chapter leadership stood. They described Olawepo-Hashim as a unifying figure with the ideological grounding, democratic credentials, and long-standing pro-democracy record to present the Accord Party as a credible electoral alternative.

They highlighted his economic program anchored on a $4 trillion development blueprint covering industrialization, energy expansion, job creation, and the unlocking of stranded national assets, and said his candidacy represented a serious and distinctive policy platform rather than a personality-driven campaign. They urged party members, supporters, and the broader movement for democratic renewal to consolidate around the candidate and present a disciplined and competitive front ahead of the 2027 general election.
