Gov. Otti Pledges Support for Nollywood Project Showcasing Abia’s Heritage

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has pledged his administration’s support for a new Nollywood project aimed at showcasing the state’s cultural heritage and history.

The governor made the commitment on Sunday when he received a delegation of filmmakers led by Mr. Francis Ifeakandu, who is producing the film The Chronicles of Enyimba.

Otti commended the team’s resilience and creativity, saying the project aligns with the state’s vision to drive investment, tourism, and economic growth through the creative sector.

“While government may not directly sponsor private film projects, our administration remains committed to providing the enabling environment and support required for the growth of the entertainment and creative industry,” Otti said.

He assured the filmmakers that his government would continue to work with stakeholders to back initiatives that promote Abia and create opportunities for residents.

Drawing on his experience as a movie producer in the 1990s, Otti said he understands the challenges and opportunities in Nollywood. He disclosed that plans are underway to establish an Entertainment City in Abia — a world-class hub for filmmakers, creative professionals, and investors. He added that land acquisition and compensation processes have already commenced.

The governor praised Ifeakandu and other Nollywood stars on the project for their efforts in “telling Abia’s story to the world.”

The Chronicles of Enyimba, which features over 2,000 cast members and is structured into six seasons, is expected to restore Abia’s prominence in Nigeria’s movie industry while generating employment and attracting investment, especially in Aba, popularly known as Enyimba City.
