PRP Leader Baba-Ahmed Calls for Tinubu’s Resignation Over Security Failure as Protest Erupts in Abuja

People’s Redemption Party National Leader Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, saying the president had lost control of the country’s escalating security situation, failed in the government’s most basic responsibility of protecting citizens, and that in a truly democratic system his record on insecurity would have cost him his position long ago.

Speaking during a television interview, Baba-Ahmed said every part of Nigeria, including those previously considered safe, was now vulnerable to violent attacks and kidnappings, and that the administration and its supporters appeared to have normalized a crisis that demanded urgent and sustained intervention. He accused the government, the National Assembly, and the president’s inner circle of behaving as though insecurity was a problem the country could learn to live with.

He said the PRP’s call for resignation was driven by a sense of national emergency in governance and security, not by partisan politics, and warned that if current trends continued between now and the 2027 elections, Nigerians would reject Tinubu at the ballot box. He also defended the PRP’s internal selection of former Cross River Governor Donald Duke as the party’s presidential candidate, saying Duke applied to join the party, complied with all required processes including screening, and participated in a structured selection process involving the southern aspirants.

Separately, a group of protesters gathered in front of the Federal High Court in Abuja, chanting and demanding the immediate resignation of the president over the rising cases of kidnapping, banditry, and general insecurity across the country. The protest was led by a demonstrator who moved energetically among the crowd, pointing and shouting as others joined with megaphones and raised fists.
