Football icon David Beckham is set to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, organisers announced on Tuesday, in recognition of his impact on sport and global popular culture.
The ceremony, scheduled for June 12 in Los Angeles, will see Beckham’s star unveiled in the Sports Entertainment category. The event will be attended by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and Beckham’s wife, fashion designer and former pop star Victoria Beckham.
According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the timing of the honour coincides with heightened football interest in the United States, which is preparing to co-host the FIFA World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada.
“David Beckham’s recognition with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup,” said Ana Martinez of the Chamber. “Beckham’s role in elevating soccer’s profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful.”
Beckham, 51, enjoyed a high-profile playing career featuring spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain, where he retired in 2013.
Since hanging up his boots, he has remained active in football and business, co-owning Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF, which signed Argentine star Lionel Messi and won the MLS Cup last year.
The former England captain, who was knighted by King Charles III in 2025, has also expanded into media and entertainment through Studio 99, a production company he co-founded in 2019.
