MTN Uses Golf Tournament to Seal Business Deals and Showcase Premium Products in Port Harcourt

MTN General Manager for Regional Operations in the South-South, Ifeanyi Udom, has described the telecommunications company’s annual prestige golf tournament in Port Harcourt as one of its most strategically effective platforms for engaging high-value customers, arguing that major commercial decisions were more likely to be agreed on a golf course than inside a corporate boardroom.

Speaking at the Port Harcourt Club during the 2026 MTN Prestige Golf Classic, Udom said the event gave the company an opportunity to connect with premium customers at the activities they were most passionate about, while simultaneously showcasing curated products and services designed specifically for high-value users. She said the tournament had become a consistent platform for relationship building, networking, and business collaboration among top-tier clients.

Services being showcased at the event included MTN’s 5G network, fiber offerings, and a range of voice and data products tailored for premium customers. She said the company maintained dedicated product categories for every customer segment, from campus-based youth programs to business executives, each designed to speak to the specific lifestyle and aspirations of that group.

On the regulatory directive banning data borrowing, which all operators were required to comply with, Udom said MTN followed its regulator’s instructions without question and that this approach to regulatory compliance was non-negotiable.
