President Tinubu Congratulates Rangers International FC on Historic Ninth NPFL Title Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to Rangers International FC following their triumph in securing the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title for a record-tying ninth time.

The President officially commended the management, players, and the dedicated fanbase of the Enugu-based football club for finishing their campaign at the top of the NPFL table. Rangers International sealed their championship status by accumulating an impressive 68 points across 38 matches, finishing ahead of their closest rival, Rivers United.

In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu fondly recalled the rich heritage of the club, reflecting on Rangers’ legendary dominance during the 1970s and 1980s. During this golden era, the club secured multiple domestic league titles and FA Cup trophies. The President specifically highlighted their historic continental campaigns, including their landmark run to the finals of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975, and their triumphant victory in the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.

President Tinubu noted that as one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have consistently produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage, stating that he is proud of their latest achievement.

The President also leveraged the occasion to praise the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, attributing the club’s modern-day success to deliberate state-level governance and strategic funding. He described the victory as an obvious fruit of the current administration’s investments in youth development and sports within the state.

In the spirit of national unity and sportsmanship, the President commended the tournament’s runners-up, Rivers United, for their excellent performance throughout the tournament and for demonstrating good sportsmanship.

Looking ahead to the upcoming continental football calendar, President Tinubu offered his best wishes to both Rangers International FC and Rivers United as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the next season of the CAF Champions League.
