Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Hamzat expressed gratitude to party leaders, members, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing the nomination as a great honour and responsibility.
In a statement on Thursday, the deputy governor said his political journey began in Mushin and had been shaped by years of service, hard work, and commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
He noted that over the past two decades, he had served Lagos State in various capacities alongside leaders who contributed significantly to the state’s development and transformation.
Hamzat said his experience in government had shown him the complexities of managing a megacity like Lagos, stressing that governance requires vision, strategic planning, courage, and people-oriented leadership.
According to him, his decision to contest the governorship election is driven by a desire to build a Lagos that works better for all residents, regardless of social or economic background.
“I am running to serve all Lagosians — from fishermen in Badagry and traders in Mile 12 to mechanics in Yaba and corporate executives in Victoria Island,” he said.
The APC candidate pledged to continue investing in transportation, job creation, education, healthcare, security, and other critical sectors aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
He added that his administration would focus on building an inclusive Lagos where opportunities are accessible to everyone and no citizen is left behind.
Hamzat acknowledged the contributions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council, and APC members across the state for their support and confidence in his candidacy.
He also appreciated his family, especially his wife and children, for their support and sacrifices throughout his political journey.
The deputy governor said the 2027 election would be critical for the future of Lagos State, expressing confidence that with the support of Lagosians, the state would continue on the path of growth and development.
