The Labour Party has announced the rescheduling of all its 2027 primary elections to May 30, 2026.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the decision affects previously scheduled primaries for governorship, state assembly, presidential and National Assembly positions.
According to the statement, the governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries earlier fixed for May 27, 2026, as well as the presidential and National Assembly primaries slated for May 29, 2026, will now be conducted simultaneously on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
The party explained that the adjustment became necessary due to the coincidence of the earlier dates with major national events.
It noted that May 27 coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across Nigeria.
The Labour Party stated that the rescheduling was intended to allow party members, aspirants, supporters and Nigerians generally to fully participate in the religious and national observances.
Describing itself as a responsive and people-oriented political party, the Labour Party said it considered the spiritual significance of the Sallah celebration and the importance of the May 29 anniversary before making the decision.
The party expressed regret over any inconvenience the change in schedule may cause aspirants, stakeholders and supporters, while appreciating them for their understanding and cooperation.
