Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged the Code of Conduct Bureau to maintain strict independence and remain apolitical in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
Shettima gave the charge on Friday while receiving a delegation from the Bureau led by its Chairman, Abdullahi Usman Bello, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Vice President emphasized the need for the agency to operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, warning officials against allowing the institution to become entangled in controversies.
“Remain steadfast. Be as apolitical as humanly possible and do your job as much as you can,” Shettima told the delegation.
He also commended the Bureau’s ongoing digitisation efforts and encouraged the leadership to sustain reforms aimed at modernising its operations.
According to him, the digitisation process would enable public officers to declare their assets and liabilities electronically from any location, thereby eliminating delays and inefficiencies associated with manual documentation.
The Vice President noted that adopting digital systems would align the Bureau’s operations with global best practices and improve efficiency in public service administration.
Shettima further stressed that the changing global environment makes it imperative for institutions such as the CCB to embrace technology-driven reforms in order to remain effective and credible.
He also congratulated Bello and members of his management team on their recent appointments and wished them success in the discharge of their duties.
