The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the Nigerian House of Representatives ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
Obasa made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege, Lagos State, where he said his decision followed calls from APC leaders in the area urging him to join the race.
During the meeting, he also appealed to party members to support other aspirants, including the immediate past Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, who is contesting for Agege Constituency I, and Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo, who is vying for Agege Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The declaration is part of a growing wave of political activities in Agege as aspirants across various positions intensify consultations and mobilise support ahead of the party primaries.
Political observers note that several aspirants have been holding meetings with party stakeholders and supporters, urging them to participate actively in the primary elections and rally behind their preferred candidates.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening and nomination processes are currently ongoing at both state and national levels as the party prepares for its primaries across constituencies.
Residents of Agege and Orile-Agege, along with party members in Lagos State, are expected to await the outcome of the screening exercise and subsequent primaries, which will determine the party’s official candidates for the 2026 elections.
