Peter Obi Celebrates Nigerian Nurses on World Nurses Day, Donates N10 Million

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has paid tribute to Nigerian nurses and midwives in commemoration of World Nurses Day, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s healthcare sector.

In a message marking the occasion, Obi praised nurses for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in sustaining healthcare delivery across the country despite difficult working conditions.

According to him, nurses occupy a critical position in Nigeria’s health system and deserve greater investment and recognition for their contributions to national development.

Obi noted that he had consistently supported schools and colleges of nursing and midwifery across the country because of his belief in the importance of healthcare and human capital development.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by nurses, including physical and mental stress, inadequate medical equipment, poor working environments, and high patient-to-nurse ratios, commending them for continuing to serve with professionalism and compassion.

The former Anambra State governor also lauded Nigerian nurses in the diaspora for their achievements in clinical practice, research, and global healthcare leadership, saying they have continued to project Nigeria positively on the international stage.

Obi reiterated his commitment to building a healthcare system that values and rewards medical professionals, promising greater investment in nursing education and training.

As part of activities marking World Nurses Day, he also announced a donation of N10 million in support of nurses and healthcare-related initiatives.
