Inspector General Calls for Stronger Public Partnership in National Security Efforts

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has called on Nigerians to actively support the police and other security agencies in their work, stressing that ensuring safety across the country was a shared responsibility requiring genuine partnership between government, the private sector, civil society, and ordinary citizens rather than resting solely on the shoulders of law enforcement personnel.

Disu made the appeal at a state banquet hosted in his honour by the Lagos State Government following his appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police, describing the occasion as a symbolic homecoming given his years of service in the state that shaped his policing philosophy and professional character.

He reflected on his record of service, reaffirmed his commitment to restoring public trust in the Nigeria Police Force, promoting professionalism at every level, and deepening community-based policing approaches that brought officers closer to the people they protected. He pledged to enhance collaboration between the police, the Lagos State Government, and key security partners including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, with the aim of sustaining peace and stability across Lagos and nationwide.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Disu as a true product of Lagos, shaped by the state’s institutions and communities and distinguished by an unwavering commitment to public service that had been evident throughout his career. Sanwo-Olu pointed to Disu’s tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad as a particularly defining chapter that demonstrated the leadership qualities now being brought to bear at the national level.
