A sociocultural organisation in Remoland, the Pan Remo Movement, has urged political leaders and governorship aspirants from the zone to respect what it described as an existing understanding on power rotation in Ogun State and support a shift of the governorship to Ogun West in 2027.
The group said attempts by politicians from Remo to pursue the governorship immediately after the tenure of Governor Dapo Abiodun could damage political trust and goodwill among the state’s major zones.
In a statement signed by its President, Otunba ‘Poju Akintayo-Ayodele, and General Secretary, Oloye Tunde Adekoya, PRM argued that Remo had occupied the governorship for 16 of the 28 years since the return to civilian rule in 1999 through former Governor Gbenga Daniel and the incumbent governor.
The organisation said the zone should therefore reciprocate the support it received from other parts of Ogun State during the elections that produced Abiodun in 2019 and 2023.
PRM argued that Ogun West, particularly Yewa, deserved an opportunity to produce the next governor in the interest of equity and inclusion.
The group cautioned political actors against placing individual ambition above what it described as the broader interest of the state and warned that disregarding established political understandings could weaken confidence among the zones.
According to PRM, power-sharing arrangements depend on reciprocity, trust and mutual respect and should be viewed beyond the ambition of a single aspirant or one election cycle.
The organisation said its planned 2026 Pan Remo Forum would focus on preserving political goodwill and peaceful coexistence among Ogun’s zones before, during and after the 2027 general election.
It called on political leaders, traditional institutions and community stakeholders in Remo to consider the long-term implications of zoning decisions and support an arrangement that gives each part of the state a sense of belonging.
The position represents the view of the Pan Remo Movement and forms part of the wider political debate over succession in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
