Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for economic sanctions and a visa ban against Blue Economy Minister Gboyega Oyetola, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, Bola Oyebamiji, Wole Oke and other All Progressives Congress leaders over alleged involvement in political violence ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Receiving a British government delegation visiting ahead of the poll, Adeleke said those he named actively promoted violence through their allies and associates, resulting in killings and gun attacks across the state, and while commending security chiefs for stepping in to stop the bloodshed, accused the named figures of tacitly and openly encouraging it. I have zero tolerance for violence, he said, telling reporters he had informed Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu that even his own son should be arrested if implicated, insisting the state harbours no thugs anywhere and that police can and should arrest any suspect regardless of political affiliation, calling for strict law enforcement across the board.
His comments came amid another political killing, that of an Accord Party member at Ijebu Jesa, bringing the total to five Accord members killed and 15 critically wounded by suspected APC thugs since the 2026 political campaigns began. I believe we must have a deterrent against those promoting political violence, Adeleke said, calling for visa bans against politicians sponsoring killings and attacks and similar sanctions against security chiefs who aid or abet such anti democratic activity, insisting elections are not about bloodshed and that Osun residents deserve peace and freedom to choose their own leaders, with real consequences for anyone deliberately endangering lives for political gain. British Senior Political Advisor Wale Adebajo, leading the visiting team, told the governor the delegation was in the state as part of pre election peace building efforts alongside other partners, assuring him of British government support for a peaceful, transparent electoral process, and pledged the team would engage all stakeholders to help secure a peaceful environment ahead of the August 15 polls.
