The Bayelsa State Government says it has recorded no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease and has intensified preparedness measures following a reported imported case in Abuja.
Health Commissioner Professor Seiyefa Brisibe told journalists in Yenagoa that surveillance, emergency coordination and public awareness activities had been strengthened across the state’s eight local government areas. He said the response followed the reported confirmation of an imported Ebola case in Abuja by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention on October 20, 2026. Xposure News has not independently verified that national case announcement.
“As of this briefing, no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease has been reported in Bayelsa State,” Brisibe said, urging residents to remain vigilant without spreading rumors.
According to the commissioner, the state is strengthening its Emergency Operations Centre, reviewing isolation and treatment arrangements, and increasing surveillance in hospitals, transport terminals and communities. Healthcare workers have also been reminded of infection prevention protocols and the appropriate use of protective equipment.
Brisibe said the government was coordinating with national and international health partners. He advised anyone with possible exposure and symptoms such as fever, weakness, vomiting or diarrhea to contact health authorities promptly and disclose relevant travel or contact history.
He also warned against stigmatizing people because of their travel history or suspected exposure. The commissioner said lessons from earlier responses to COVID-19, cholera and mpox would inform Bayelsa’s preparedness.
