Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged political leaders across Nigeria to embrace cooperation between parties, arguing that the approach used by his supporters in the FCT could reduce political tension and improve governance.
Speaking during a meeting with political figures, traditional leaders, women and young people in Kuje Area Council, Wike said the arrangement he calls a Rainbow Coalition had brought members of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party together around shared local objectives.
He argued that political differences should not result in violence and urged elected officials to remain accessible to their constituents. Local APC and PDP representatives at the event praised the cooperation, although their remarks reflected the positions of participating party leaders.
In a separate clarification, Wike rejected a social media claim that he had endorsed Senator Ishaku Abbo, described in the circulating post as the Labour Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State.
Through his media aide Lere Olayinka, the minister said he had made no such endorsement and had no political relationship with the Labour Party or its candidates in the state. He urged the public to disregard the statement attributed to him.
Wike added that any decision to support a candidate would be communicated by him directly rather than through an unverified online message.
