Mbah Inaugurates Multi-Billion-Naira Pharmaceutical Plant in Enugu

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has inaugurated Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, a multi-billion-naira drug manufacturing company in the Trans-Ekulu area of Enugu, as part of efforts to boost local pharmaceutical production, create jobs and strengthen healthcare delivery.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday, Mbah described the facility as an investment in public health, economic growth and the future of young people in the state.

He congratulated the company’s founder, board and management, noting that establishing a manufacturing enterprise required significant commitment and confidence in the state’s economic prospects.

The governor said the facility would create employment opportunities, provide internship placements and promote skills transfer, while supporting healthcare delivery in Enugu and other parts of Nigeria.

Mbah also disclosed that his administration would explore commercial partnerships with the company to supply medicines to the state’s central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities.

“We are interested in made-in-Enugu, and that’s what you’re doing here,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to working with private-sector investors.

He noted that the state was building 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres across its wards, adding that the facilities would require dependable supplies of essential medicines to operate effectively.

According to him, private investment remains central to the state’s economic growth strategy, particularly efforts to retain skilled young people by creating opportunities for them to build their careers locally.

The Chairman of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries’ Board of Directors, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd), commended the governor for creating an investment-friendly environment that attracted the company to Enugu.

Madueke described the facility as a legacy project designed to generate employment, develop local talent and contribute to economic development.

He said the company would prioritise product quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance and sound corporate governance, stressing the importance of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in safeguarding public health.

The company’s Managing Director, Chima Madueke, said Anchorage was founded on the principle of quality and wellness, reflected in its slogan, “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”

He said the company had obtained the necessary approvals and clearances from NAFDAC and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, adding that it was committed to quality assurance.

According to him, the company is positioned to contribute to efforts to tackle fake and substandard medicines and is open to supplying hospitals, healthcare institutions and pharmacies directly.

The inauguration highlights the role of private-sector investment in the Enugu State Government’s efforts to expand the state’s economic base and strengthen local manufacturing.
