Makinde Questions Federal Budget Execution, Promises Economic Reset in 2027 Bid

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples’ Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has challenged the Tinubu administration over federal budget implementation and pledged a more inclusive economic programme if elected in 2027.

Addressing an APM town hall in Akure, Ondo State, Makinde questioned which federal budget was currently being implemented and contrasted the situation with his administration’s claimed improvement in budget execution in Oyo State. He said the state’s performance had risen from roughly 28–30 per cent before his tenure to more than 70 per cent, with annual budgets generally aligned to the January–December financial year. The figures were presented by the governor and were not independently verified for this report.

Makinde said his proposed “Reset Nigeria” agenda, developed with running mate Musa Lawal Daura, would prioritize infrastructure, education, security and economic opportunities beyond political or regional loyalties.

He also made physical stamina an issue in the presidential contest, saying candidates should demonstrate the energy needed to handle the demands of office. He argued that his candidacy should not be disqualified on regional grounds merely because the incumbent president also comes from the South-West. APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle criticized high living costs and insecurity, while party leader and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed urged supporters to intensify mobilization. Their comments formed part of a political campaign event, and the administration criticized by the speakers was not represented in the supplied account
