The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has launched a nationwide prayer programme for peaceful, free and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The initiative, themed “Let Justice and Peace Flow” and inspired by Amos 5:24, will run from October 2026 to January 2027 across Catholic dioceses and parishes nationwide.
In a statement signed by CBCN President, Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, and Secretary, Bishop Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, the bishops cited concerns over electoral violence, vote-buying, rigging and ethnic divisions.
“As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, we are called to intensify prayers for free, fair, credible and peaceful elections,” the statement said.
The bishops called on clergy, church groups, families and individual faithful to participate in prayer and fasting sessions designed to seek divine guidance for electoral institutions, the judiciary and security agencies.
The programme will feature parish and diocesan prayer activities culminating in a nationwide day of prayer and fasting on the eve of the elections.
