A Russian overnight missile and drone assault on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, has left one person dead and eight others injured, while causing damage to residential, medical and public infrastructure across several districts of the city.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack late Monday involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and hundreds of drones. Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defence systems intercepted or suppressed 243 drones and four missiles during the operation.
The Air Force reported that strikes were recorded at 25 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell in eight other areas.
Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed carrying out what it described as a “massive strike” using high-precision ground-based weapons and attack drones targeting military-related infrastructure in Ukraine.
Moscow claimed the targets included a data centre, a logistics hub allegedly storing drone and cruise missile components, a drone manufacturing facility and a locomotive depot used for missile storage. Russian authorities also said a military-linked polymer production plant in the Kyiv region was struck.
In Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district, local authorities said a private medical facility and a metro station sustained damage during the attack. Educational institutions and a sports facility were also affected in the Dniprovskyi district after debris fell in several locations.
Authorities reported a fire at a medical facility inside a 25-storey residential building in the Solomianskyi district. Emergency responders later extinguished the blaze.
The attack additionally shattered windows in nearby buildings and damaged a shopping centre.
