The All Progressives Congress has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission demanding enforcement of a Supreme Court decision concerning the submission and use of political party membership registers ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a letter dated October 9, 2026, and addressed to INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru cited the September 24 ruling in INEC v Zenith Labour Party, suit SC/CV/495/2026.
According to the party’s interpretation of the judgment, Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026 requires parties to submit membership registers within the statutory deadline before primaries, congresses or conventions. The APC argued that only names appearing in the submitted register should be eligible to participate in the relevant internal elections.
The party asked INEC to verify compliance across political parties and apply any consequences prescribed by law where violations are established. It maintained that consistent enforcement would protect internal democracy and public confidence. The underlying court judgment and the legal consequences described in the letter have not been independently examined for this rewrite.
