Ogun Says Teacher Recruitment Tops 7,000 as N24bn Goes to School Infrastructure

The Ogun State Government says it has recruited more than 7,000 teachers under Governor Dapo Abiodun as part of efforts to strengthen teaching and learning across the state.

The government also said N24 billion had been earmarked through the State Universal Basic Education Board for education infrastructure, while more than N51 million in cash prizes was presented to outstanding teachers, administrators and schools during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abeokuta.

Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the State Government Tokunbo Talabi, said teachers remained the foundation of every profession and that the state would continue investing in educators, schools and learners through the Ogun State Education Revitalization Agenda.

The governor said the OgunTEACH programme had supported large scale recruitment and announced that more than 1,500 interns had been absorbed into the mainstream civil service. Their appointment letters were presented during the ceremony.

He said the state’s education strategy covered curriculum delivery, school management, technology, infrastructure, funding and welfare. Abiodun also praised Ogun teachers and administrators who had received recognition at state and national levels.

Cash awards were presented across public and private school categories. First place winners in the Best Teacher categories received N2.5 million each, second place winners N1.5 million and third place winners N1 million. Community Nursery and Primary School, Mike II, and Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu, received N10 million each in their respective Best School categories.

Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Sewakanu Noah Oladipupo, commended the administration for teacher recruitment, implementation of promotions and removal of the career ceiling that had prevented primary school teachers from progressing beyond Grade Level 16.

Speaking for newly appointed teachers, Olasoji Tobiloba thanked the government for absorbing OgunTEACh interns and pledged that the beneficiaries would respond with greater commitment to their duties.
