Obi Kwankwaso Women Group Begins Nationwide 2027 Mobilization

A national women’s organization supporting the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso has begun building campaign structures across Nigeria as political preparations for the 2027 general election intensify.

The Obi Kwankwaso National Women’s Support Group said its nationwide mobilization formally began on October 1 following the inauguration of its national leadership.

The organization plans to establish structures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in support of the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential ticket.

Obi and Kwankwaso joined the NDC in May 2026, with Obi subsequently emerging as the party’s presidential candidate and Kwankwaso becoming his running mate.

The women’s organization said it would focus on engaging women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young women and community organizers.

Convener and National Coordinator Anwuli Ogbechi said the organization was bringing together women from different regions and backgrounds to expand women’s participation in political and community affairs.

The group plans to organize town hall meetings, community forums and other grassroots programmes through its state structures.

Ogbechi said the organization would also undertake political education, leadership mentoring for younger women and engagement with entrepreneurs, professionals and Nigerian women in the diaspora.

Medical and educational outreach programmes are also planned, alongside initiatives involving people with disabilities and underserved communities.

The organization’s leadership includes Mairo Musa Abubakar as Vice Coordinator for the North, Basiratu Musa Ibijoke as Deputy Coordinator for the South, Victoria Mgbor Odogwu as General Secretary, Tina Ohwo as Organising Secretary and Fadimatu Atiku Danrimi as Treasurer.

Other officials have been assigned responsibilities covering finance, legal affairs, publicity, welfare and interfaith and intertribal engagement.

The initiative comes as the wider Obi and Kwankwaso political movement expands its campaign organization ahead of 2027.

A presidential campaign council comprising state and zonal coordinators and officials responsible for mobilization, strategy, legal affairs and other campaign functions has also been constituted.

The women’s group said its immediate focus would be expanding grassroots structures and increasing women’s participation as the contest for the presidency gathers momentum.
