Nigerian troops have killed 16 suspected terrorists during military operations in Adamawa State as security forces intensify efforts against extremist groups operating in the North East.
The Joint Task Force North East under Operation Hadin Kai said the operations involved a ground ambush, air action and defensive engagements across Sector 4 in Adamawa.
Three soldiers were also killed during fighting with insurgents, while wounded personnel were evacuated for medical treatment and were reported to be in stable condition.
Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Mohammed Goni, said the engagements occurred between September 30 and October 1, 2026.
According to the military, troops carried out an ambush around the Boima area of Gombi Local Government Area after identifying a suspected terrorist position.
The operation resulted in the killing of 16 fighters, the military said.
Weapons recovered from the location included three AK 47 rifles, two pump action rifles, one locally made gun, six AK 47 magazines and ammunition.
Air operations followed in the early hours of October 1.
The military said an intelligence and surveillance platform detected a group of suspected terrorists and about 15 motorcycles gathered beneath tree cover.
After what the military described as positive identification of the target, an air strike was carried out.
The military said an assessment conducted afterwards indicated that the target had been hit, while surviving fighters fled the area.
At about the same period, insurgents attacked military positions involving 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha.
Troops responded and forced the attackers to withdraw, according to Operation Hadin Kai.
Three soldiers died during the confrontation.
The military said further operations were continuing across the area.
Operation Hadin Kai said the latest engagements occurred as the Theatre Command undergoes reorganization intended to improve cooperation among land forces, air units and other components involved in operations.
The military pledged to maintain pressure on extremist groups and urged residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies.
