Political mobilization for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign is gathering momentum as Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike move to consolidate support in the North Central region and Rivers State.
Akume and Wike separately met political stakeholders as efforts to strengthen the President’s grassroots structures intensified.
In Abuja, Akume joined the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and other political figures at a strategic meeting of the North Central Grassroots Mobilization Network.
Akume, who serves as Grand Patron of the network, said the organization was created to build support for the Tinubu and Kashim Shettima ticket across the geopolitical zone.
The mobilization plan includes a major rally scheduled for October 10, 2026 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
It will also include medical outreach programmes and advocacy tours involving town hall meetings across the 19 senatorial districts in the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Akume said the medical programme would provide services including eye examinations, prescription spectacles, cataract assessments, glaucoma screening and diabetic eye screening.
He said the initiative was intended to combine political mobilization with services targeted at communities.
The advocacy tour will provide opportunities for direct interaction with residents as political leaders seek to strengthen the President’s support ahead of the election.
Akume said the initiative was developed by the network’s National Coordinator and Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Sonny Echono, alongside other stakeholders and had received the backing of the APC national leadership.
Yilwatda said political stakeholders in the North Central region had agreed to work collectively to strengthen support for Tinubu.
He also disclosed plans to establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances within the party and improve cooperation among stakeholders.
Sule said the APC had a strong political foundation in the region and argued that the party’s control of six states, alongside its presence in the Federal Capital Territory administration, could strengthen its mobilization effort.
In Rivers State, Wike continued his campaign for Tinubu during a consultative meeting with stakeholders in Akpor Kingdom in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.
The FCT Minister said political relationships should be driven by collective interests rather than permanent hostility.
He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu and urged his political structure in Rivers to work towards delivering the state for the President.
Wike again declared that he would resign from Tinubu’s cabinet if the President failed to win Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
He told supporters that his political engagement was motivated by what he described as the interests of Rivers people.
Wike also defended his willingness to reconcile with former political opponents, arguing that electoral politics ultimately depends on building a broad coalition.
With the 2027 contest approaching, both the North Central region and Rivers State are emerging as important areas in the early mobilization strategy surrounding Tinubu’s reelection campaign.
