The Delta State Government has commenced its Electric Vehicles (EV) Training and Empowerment Programme in Asaba, aimed at equipping residents with practical skills in electric vehicle technology and opening new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship within the emerging green economy.
The two-day programme was officially flagged off on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, who described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development and sustainable transportation.
Agofure said the training underscores the state government’s commitment to preparing Deltans for the global shift towards cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation systems.
He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity, noting that the programme covers key areas such as electric vehicle maintenance, operations, and entrepreneurship.
According to the commissioner, the state government is also implementing policies and programmes designed to strengthen affordable mass transportation while expanding opportunities within the transport sector.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of EV Automobiles, Mr. Oghenegare Precious, commended the Delta State Government for its partnership and foresight in promoting electric vehicle technology and skills development among residents.
Also addressing participants, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Odinigwe Daniel Odigie, described the initiative as a significant step toward building a workforce capable of driving innovation and economic growth.
He noted that beyond creating employment opportunities, the programme is designed to nurture entrepreneurs and future employers of labour who can contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic development.
The training programme is expected to provide participants with hands-on knowledge of electric vehicle systems and emerging technologies, positioning Delta State as a key player in Nigeria’s transition to sustainable transportation and the green economy.
