INEC Registers 9.3 Million Youths in 2026 Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 9,324,349 young Nigerians were registered during the 2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, revealed this during the investiture ceremony of newly appointed INEC Youth Ambassadors in Abuja.

Represented by National Commissioner Prof. Rhoda Gumus, the chairman said the figures demonstrate the growing interest of young Nigerians in the electoral process and underscore their importance in shaping democratic outcomes.

According to him, the appointment of Youth Ambassadors is aimed at strengthening engagement between the commission and Nigeria’s youth population.

He urged the ambassadors to promote voter education, peaceful participation, electoral integrity and responsible citizenship ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, INEC also presented a Certificate of Return to Hon. Kallamu MaiJama’a, winner of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election held on September 19, 2026.

The member-elect commended the electoral body for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible election.
