NDDC Goes Digital as Electronic Memo System Replaces Paper Process

PORT HARCOURT — The Niger Delta Development Commission has commenced full implementation of an Electronic Memo Portal as part of a wider effort to digitise its internal operations.

NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku was formally onboarded onto the system at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Ogbuku said the transition to digital administration was intended to reduce human error, missing documents and unnecessary delays associated with moving physical files between offices.

Directors have already received training, while other employees will subsequently be brought onto the platform.

Ogbuku urged officials to comply with the new system as the Commission gradually automates more of its administrative processes.

Director of Information Technology and Innovation Emeka Ani said existing procedures were reviewed and aligned with approved Standard Operating Procedures before being automated.

The Electronic Memo Portal officially became operational on September 22.

NDDC expects the system to improve the processing, review and approval of official memoranda while creating clearer records showing how documents move through the Commission.

The transition represents another test of whether technology can reduce the bureaucratic delays that have traditionally affected public institutions in Nigeria.
