Yilwatda Tells Federal Agencies: Show Your Contribution to Tinubu’s $1 Trillion Economy

ABUJA — National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Nentawe Yilwatda has challenged heads of federal agencies to explain how their institutions are contributing to President Bola Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion Nigerian economy.

Yilwatda said achieving the target required more than presidential policies and would depend on the performance of government institutions, businesses and other sectors of society.

He spoke while receiving members of the Forum of Chief Executive Officers of Federal Agencies at the APC National Secretariat.

The APC chairman reminded political appointees that many qualified Nigerians could occupy the positions they currently hold.

Their appointments, he said, must therefore be justified through performance and service.

Yilwatda also complained that achievements of the administration were not always communicated effectively to Nigerians.

He urged federal agencies to examine their programmes, mandates and budgets and determine how each could contribute to employment, productivity and national economic growth.

“Every agency should be able to answer a simple question: What contribution is it making towards achieving a one trillion dollar economy?” he said.

Yilwatda identified railways, ports, deep seaports, energy infrastructure, transportation networks and logistics corridors as important components of the government’s economic programme. He said those investments were intended to reduce business costs, attract capital and strengthen Nigeria’s position as an economic hub for West and Central Africa
