Nigerian-Born Broadcaster Richard Edoki Named UK Community Radio Awards Finalist

Nigerian-born broadcaster Richard Edoki has been named a finalist in the 2026 Community Radio Awards in the United Kingdom in recognition of his work promoting community engagement and cross-cultural understanding in Cornwall.

Edoki is a volunteer broadcaster with CHBN Radio, a community and hospital station in Cornwall, where he hosts African Vibe With RichyBongo.

The programme showcases African music, culture, personal stories and diaspora experiences to audiences in Cornwall and provides a platform for voices that may receive limited representation in mainstream regional media.

His recognition comes as the Community Radio Awards marks its 10th anniversary celebrating presenters, volunteers, producers and stations across the UK.

The finalists were announced ahead of the national awards ceremony scheduled for October 24, following the National Community Radio Conference.

Edoki has also received recognition from the Devon and Cornwall Police Positive Action Team for community engagement and the use of broadcasting to build trust across diverse groups.

Organizers said his work reflected the wider role of community radio in strengthening representation, dialogue and local participation.

Community Radio Awards Chair Rebecca Steers said reaching the final was a significant achievement and reflected the commitment of broadcasters and volunteers serving communities across the country.

Winners will be announced at the October awards ceremony.
