Moghalu Denies Membership of Atiku’s 2027 Policy Team

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has distanced himself from reports linking him to the policy team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name included in a statement issued by the campaign team of Atiku and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), identifying him as a member of the former vice president’s policy advisory group.

In a statement, the economist and public policy expert said he was neither consulted nor gave consent for his name to be published in connection with the campaign.

“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he stated.

Moghalu stressed that he is not involved with Atiku’s policy team in any official, unofficial or advisory capacity.

He further disclosed that he exited partisan politics in 2022 and has maintained a non-partisan stance on national issues ever since.

According to him, he is neither a member nor a supporter of any political party in Nigeria.

The former presidential candidate said his primary focus remains his roles as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET) Africa and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory advisory firm.

Moghalu reiterated his commitment to Nigeria’s development but insisted that such service does not require political alignment.

“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail any partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.

His clarification comes amid increasing political positioning and alliance-building ahead of the 2027 general elections.
