Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor for Economic Policy Philip Ikeazor has urged company directors to treat governance as more than regulatory compliance and focus on building institutions capable of surviving economic, technological and social pressures.
Ikeazor’s remarks were delivered at the 2026 Fellows’ Night and Investiture of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria in Lagos, where he was admitted as a Fellow.
Represented by the Director of Payment System Policy, Musa Jimoh, Ikeazor said good governance should be visible in how institutions are managed, how decisions are made and how sustainable value is created.
He said accountability, transparency and resilience were essential to institutional credibility.
The deputy governor told newly inducted Fellows that professional recognition carried a responsibility to uphold ethical leadership, sound judgement and professionalism.
According to him, leadership should be judged not only by results but also by the methods used to achieve them.
He said directors ultimately leave behind institutions and standards, not merely financial outcomes.
Ikeazor also commended the CIoD for helping directors understand their responsibilities in an increasingly complex business environment and urged the Fellows to deepen their commitment to responsible directorship.
