Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has condemned the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu community in Bagudo Local Government Area, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli, describing the attack as barbaric and a tragic loss to the state.
The governor expressed his condolences following reports of violent attacks around Kaoje, particularly in the Lafagu and Buya communities, which reportedly resulted in the loss of lives and the displacement of residents.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, Governor Idris said he received news of the incidents with profound sadness and assured affected communities that the state government was working closely with security agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
He said efforts were being intensified to strengthen security operations in the affected areas to protect lives and property and prevent further attacks.
“I received with profound sadness and deep concern the unfortunate incidents that occurred around Kaoje, particularly in the Lafagu and Buya communities, which resulted in the loss of lives, including the death of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli,” the governor said.
Governor Idris prayed for the repose of the deceased and extended his condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in the attacks.
“On behalf of myself, my family and the good people of Kebbi State, I extend my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the people around Kaoje, particularly the families of those who lost their loved ones and all those affected by this unfortunate situation,” he said.
The governor also commiserated with the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Kaoje, and the Sarkin Yamma of Kaoje, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Kaoje, over the losses suffered by their communities.
He assured traditional leaders and residents that the state government would continue providing logistics and operational support to security agencies while strengthening measures aimed at restoring peace and stability in the area.
Governor Idris further extended his sympathies to the member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, Alhaji Bello A. Kaoje, the Chairman of Bagudo Local Government, and other political, traditional and community leaders affected by the attacks.
Expressing concern over the plight of displaced residents, the governor noted that many people had been forced to flee their homes, farmlands and businesses due to ongoing insecurity.
He pledged that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, would work to create conditions that would allow affected residents to return safely and resume their normal economic and social activities.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, stressing that all necessary measures would be taken to restore lasting peace in the affected communities.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while encouraging community leaders and members of the public to support security agencies by providing useful information that could aid investigations and the arrest of those behind the attacks.
Governor Idris concluded by praying for the victims, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and bring comfort and peace to their families and communities.
