Peter Obi Tells 2027 Candidates to Avoid Unrealistic Promises during Kaduna Town Hall

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged politicians preparing for the 2027 general election to avoid campaign promises they cannot realistically fulfil.

Obi made the call during a town hall meeting with NDC members and supporters in Kaduna State.

The former Anambra State governor said campaigns should be based on the needs of citizens rather than broad rhetoric disconnected from the problems people face.

He urged political parties and candidates to engage Nigerians directly and focus on issues affecting livelihoods, security, public services and economic development.

Obi said campaign promises should be demand-driven and tied to practical plans that could be implemented in office.

He also used the meeting to outline part of his personal approach to presidential leadership if elected.

Obi said he would spend his annual holidays within Nigeria rather than travelling abroad.

According to him, a president should remain close to citizens and use such periods to visit different parts of the country, particularly communities affected by insecurity and other serious challenges.

His running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also addressed the gathering and encouraged supporters to participate actively in the electoral process.

Party members and supporters used the town hall to raise political and socio-economic concerns directly with the candidates.

The Kaduna engagement forms part of the NDC’s effort to strengthen grassroots mobilization and communicate its message ahead of the 2027 election.

Obi’s remarks represent campaign positions and should be assessed alongside the formal policy proposals the party presents as the election approaches.
