The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from a Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) announced by the OK Movement and referred the movement’s leader, John Ugulu, to the party’s disciplinary organ.
In a statement dated September 19, 2026, and signed by the National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, the party said it had noted with concern a publication attributed to Ugulu announcing the formation of a Presidential Campaign Council under the auspices of the OK Movement.
The NDC said the announcement was not authorised by the party and urged the public and the media to disregard it.
The party stressed that its candidates were not independent candidates and remained subject to the authority and structures of the NDC.
According to the statement, only the party leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council.
The NDC warned members, candidates and support groups against taking actions capable of undermining or demarketing the party.
It also stated that no individual or group would be permitted to announce, constitute or publish any campaign council, structure or organ in the name of the party without prior approval from the National Working Committee.
The party said support groups remained welcome but must not portray themselves as alternative party structures or parallel organs.
It urged members with grievances or disagreements to use the party’s internal mechanisms rather than resorting to public attacks or unauthorised pronouncements.
The NDC cited what it described as Ugulu’s “affront,” alleged excesses during the Lagos State primary and repeated disregard for party authority as reasons for the disciplinary action.
The party said it had therefore referred him to the appropriate disciplinary organ in accordance with its constitution.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to an issue-based campaign, saying it remained focused on its vision of delivering what it described as a “New Nigeria that is Possible.”
