Rivers ADC Demands Explanation from INEC over Redeployment of Electoral Officers

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to explain the recent redeployment of electoral officers in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party said it accepted INEC’s legal authority to deploy personnel but argued that changes involving election officials should be transparent enough to preserve public confidence.

ADC Publicity Secretary Chizy Enyi said the party had information that seven electoral officers previously serving in Rivers had been transferred to other states.

The ADC also said it had received allegations that some officials were moved because certain political interests considered them too independent.

The party acknowledged that those allegations had not been established and asked INEC to confirm or deny them.

It also raised questions about possible political influence over subsequent postings, including alleged arrangements involving Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The ADC asked INEC to disclose who authorized the transfers, the official reasons for them, the origin of replacement officers and the criteria used for deployment.

It further asked whether political actors, government officials or intermediaries had attempted to influence staffing decisions.

The claims remain allegations by the opposition party.

INEC had not been quoted in the supplied material responding to the Rivers ADC’s specific questions.

The dispute reflects heightened scrutiny of electoral administration as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.

For INEC, the challenge will be to demonstrate that personnel decisions are based on administrative and professional considerations rather than partisan influence.
