Falconets Draw South Korea 1-1 in Final FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Friendly

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, played out a 1-1 draw with South Korea in their final friendly match ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals.

The two-time silver medallists took the lead through forward Mary Mamudu, who continued her impressive scoring form by putting Nigeria ahead on Tuesday afternoon.

South Korea, however, fought back and restored parity from the penalty spot with 12 minutes remaining to ensure both teams settled for a draw.

The result follows the Falconets’ encouraging 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in Brzeg on Friday, giving the Nigerian side a positive boost ahead of the tournament.

The Falconets, who finished as runners-up at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2010 and 2014, will begin their campaign against Spain in Sosnowiec on Monday evening.

Nigeria will then face China in their second group-stage match in Sosnowiec on Thursday, September 10, before rounding off their group fixtures against New Caledonia in Łódź on Sunday, September 13.

The draw against South Korea marks the end of the Falconets’ pre-tournament preparations as they turn their attention to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and their quest for a strong campaign.
