Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has urged All Progressives Congress elders and party structures across the state to unite ahead of the 2027 general election.
Aiyedatiwa spoke at a meeting of the APC Elders Council in Akure, where he directed that the council be activated across all 18 local government areas.
The governor said the party had only one recognised structure in Ondo State and warned against factionalism.
He called on members to support President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates contesting federal and state elections.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration’s development agenda and the party’s electoral prospects required cooperation among elders, women, youths and grassroots members.
He also urged party leaders to continue engaging members who had become associated with rival internal factions.
The governor said no member should be excluded if reconciliation remained possible.
APC State Chairman Kolawole Babatunde said the experience of older party members was important because many had participated in the political movement from the Alliance for Democracy through the Action Congress and into the APC.
Elders Council Chairman Nimbe Farukanmi also called for unity and support for both Aiyedatiwa and Tinubu.
Other senior party figures described the meeting as timely.
The gathering forms part of APC efforts to reduce internal divisions before the 2027 campaign intensifies.
The effectiveness of the reconciliation effort will depend on whether competing factions accept a single party structure and cooperate during candidate mobilization.
