Owa Obokun Hails Adeleke’s Re-Election, Describes Victory as ‘Divine Judgement’

The Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, has described Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election as a manifestation of God’s will, saying the outcome of the election has strengthened his faith in divine intervention.

The monarch spoke on Saturday when Adeleke visited his palace, where he praised the governor’s leadership and described him as “the David of our time.”

Oba Haastrup said Adeleke’s victory represented a triumph of God’s will over what he described as human scheming, recalling the tension and violence that characterised the period leading to the election.

According to the monarch, the governor’s reliance on God, humility and commitment to praise and thanksgiving were among the qualities that sustained him during the challenging period.

He urged other political leaders and highly placed Nigerians to cultivate the habit of praising God in appreciation of His blessings.

The Owa Obokun also cautioned those who mocked Adeleke over his public praise dancing, drawing a parallel with the biblical account of David and his wife, Michal.

He said the biblical story demonstrated the depth of God’s support for those who genuinely worship and praise Him.

Reflecting on the pre-election period, the monarch said the violence and political tension in Ijeshaland had raised concerns about the safety and wellbeing of the governor.

He quoted the biblical passage that some trust in chariots and horses while others trust in the name of the Lord, adding that God ultimately did not disappoint those who relied on Him.

“I must confess that the outcome of the election increases my faith in God. Governor Adeleke is an embodiment of faith, humility, thanksgiving and performance,” the monarch said.

Oba Haastrup commended Adeleke for what he described as his performance across the state during his first term, saying the governor’s achievements across the 30 local government areas had surprised many people.

He also commended the people of Osun State for supporting Adeleke during the election, describing the electorate’s decision as a stand for truth and good governance.

The monarch further praised the Adeleke administration for establishing a N500 million compensation fund for victims of election violence and the Adeleke family for providing scholarships to children of people killed during the violence.

He described the Adeleke family as “a big blessing” to the people of Osun State.

The traditional ruler also commended the governor for reaching out to political opponents after the election, describing the gesture as a demonstration of statesmanship.

He urged Adeleke to continue with reconciliation efforts and work towards healing political divisions in the state.

Oba Haastrup expressed confidence that Adeleke would support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the President had recognised the governor’s political relevance.

He also prayed for Adeleke’s continued good health, wisdom and capacity to deliver on his mandate.

The monarch tasked the governor with remaining committed to genuine service and sustaining the development of infrastructure across towns and communities in Osun State.

Adeleke: I Looked Up to God During ‘Near War’ Election

Responding, Adeleke expressed appreciation to traditional rulers who supported him during the re-election campaign, particularly those who stood firm despite what he described as tremendous pressure.

The governor said the election was like a “near war”, but maintained that he relied on God throughout the process and believed his prayers were answered.

Adeleke, who presented his Certificate of Return to the Owa Obokun, said his administration would continue its reconciliation efforts across the state.

He reiterated his commitment to the principle that “there is no winner, no vanquished”, promising to govern in a manner that promotes unity and inclusiveness.

The governor also thanked the monarch and the people of Ijeshaland for their support, pledging to remain focused on good governance and the continued development of Osun State.
