Atlanta United Sign Switzerland Striker Breel Embolo From Rennes

Atlanta United have completed the signing of Switzerland international striker Breel Embolo from French Ligue 1 club Rennes on a long-term deal.

The 29-year-old forward has signed a contract running through the 2029-30 MLS season and will occupy a Designated Player slot. The transfer fee has been reported to be in the region of €15 million to €17 million ($18 million).

Embolo joins Atlanta after scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 34 appearances for Rennes last season. The move marks his return to regular club football in a new league after just one season in France.

The striker has previously featured for Monaco, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke, building a reputation as a powerful and versatile forward.

At international level, Embolo has established himself as an important member of the Switzerland national team. He was part of the Swiss squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has scored 26 goals in 92 international appearances.

His arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to Atlanta’s attack, which had scored just 23 goals, the fewest in the Eastern Conference at the time of his signing.

Atlanta United sporting director Chris Henderson praised Embolo’s experience and qualities, highlighting his ability to score goals, link up with teammates and contribute through his work rate.

“Breel brings experience at the highest level, goal-scoring ability, link-up play and a strong work ethic,” Henderson said.

Embolo reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs but opted to continue his career in Major League Soccer, making Atlanta his latest destination after spells across Germany, Switzerland, France and Monaco.

Atlanta will hope the experienced striker can quickly adapt to MLS and provide the goals needed to strengthen their push for success in the coming seasons.
