Works Minister David Umahi has visited the deteriorated Benin Agbor Asaba Road after motorists endured severe delays and difficult conditions along the strategic corridor.
The visit followed a directive from President Bola Tinubu for the Federal Ministry of Works to intervene urgently in critical sections where road failure had disrupted movement.
Umahi said the government recognized the hardship being experienced by commuters and would pursue both immediate relief and permanent solutions.
He travelled to Benin with members of National Assembly works committees and was expected to engage the Edo and Delta State Governments, the Niger Delta Development Commission and other stakeholders.
The ministry also moved to address problems on the Ifaki Kabba Ado Ekiti Road.
Minister of State for Works Bello Goronyo was directed to lead an assessment team and begin remedial work on the route.
Umahi said the interventions should not become another round of temporary patching.
He linked the approach to the Federal Government’s wider road reconstruction programme.
The latest action followed the flag off of the 56.5 kilometer dualisation of the Ibadan Ijebu Ode Road.
The project was approved by the Federal Executive Council and awarded to JRB Construction Limited.
Umahi described the road as an important economic connection between Oyo and Ogun states.
He said the dualisation could reduce travel time, improve road safety and support agricultural and commercial activity across the Lagos Ogun Oyo corridor.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, representing the President at the event, also described the route as too important to remain neglected.
The government said the project would provide a more durable alternative to repeated short term repairs on one of the South West’s major transport corridors.
