Ogun Waterside Local Government has pledged to support the proposed Dangote Deep Seaport and maintain a peaceful investment environment as planning for the project advances.
Local government chairman AbdulGaniyu Adetoye Odunnoiki described the seaport as a major development opportunity that could accelerate industrialization, employment and maritime activity in the coastal area.
The commitment was made at a stakeholders meeting involving Dangote Group representatives, traditional rulers, community leaders and government officials.
Odunnoiki praised the Federal Government and Ogun State Government for approving the Free Trade Zone in Ode Omi and Irokun as the location for the project.
He said local cooperation would be essential to ensuring that communities benefited from the investment.
The council chairman urged residents and traditional institutions to maintain peace and avoid disputes that could delay implementation.
He also said the local government would work to protect community rights, culture and welfare while creating an enabling environment for investors.
Dangote Group representative Sulaimon Ibrahim said the company would continue engaging host communities.
He said transparency, compensation and shared prosperity would be central to the relationship.
Ibrahim also said people affected during the planning process would be compensated in accordance with agreed enumeration and industry standards.
Ogun State House of Assembly member Samsideen Adekunle Lawal called on the company to prioritize qualified local residents for technical and management positions.
Participants adopted a communiqué committing the parties to regular communication, transparency and peaceful collaboration.
Additional town hall engagements are expected as the development proceeds.
The Dangote Deep Seaport is being positioned as a large maritime infrastructure project capable of supporting exports, industrial clusters and logistics within the proposed Free Trade Zone.
The project could also strengthen Ogun State’s role in regional trade if completed at the scale currently envisaged.
