The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye, who reportedly declared himself the party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election.
The party described Hunye as an impostor, insisting that his purported declaration was unauthorised and misleading.
In a statement issued by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party said Hunye’s claim to the governorship ticket was “completely false, unauthorized, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.”
The party further disclosed that Hunye was not a member in good standing, having been suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to the statement, the suspension was not an arbitrary decision but followed due process at the grassroots level.
The APC said the suspension was initiated by the ward executives in Tube Ward, subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area leadership and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
The party added that the suspension was also communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Consequently, the APC urged members of the public and party supporters to disregard Hunye’s claim of being the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The party maintained that any declaration made by him in that capacity was unauthorised and did not represent the position of the APC.
